Humidity kills new chromecast with google tv remote buttons after one month, Fixed
Last month I bought new Chromecast with google tv for my children and it came with shiny new remote.
Everything was working fine, but after one month all buttons on remote stopped working except power on/off, I decided to crack open the device and see what is inside, but inside everything was shiny.
then I decided to peel SMD button cover as device was dead and I was not afraid of damaging this thing.
As you can see coper pads were badly corroded , It is incredible only after one month of usage. I think it’s design flaw of this device because top cover plastic was perfectly sealed but two sided PCB has hole bellow each button to make connection with button coper pads. I suspect maybe this is where humidity went through and why device got damaged.
After little bit of thinking I took my soldering iron scratched pads and applied solder to fix corrosion.
You can see end result. I tested remote and seems that my DIY fix fixed buttons and I have working Chromecast again :))
